The Lead Architect

FOSTER+PARTNERS was founded by Norman Foster in 1967 and since then they have redefined skylines around the world, literally changing the vocabulary of contemporary architecture. They have created extraordinary landmarks, among them Wembley Stadium, 30 St Mary Axe; the British Museum’s Great Court, The Hearst Tower, Hong Kong International Airport; and they recreate them, as with Berlin’s historic Reichstag. Their revolutionary design for Faena House continues a collaboration that began in Buenos Aires with Faena District’s acclaimed residence, The Aleph, which was the epiphany moment of indoor/outdoor living, a concept that Faena House brings to full realization. No building has ever been more in harmony with the beach, the sky and the sea.

The Innovative Engineers

PERMASTEELISA GROUP engineers visionary concepts, bringing drawing board concepts into structural reality. They are the global leader in the design, engineering, and manufacturing of advanced architectural walls and forms. For Faena House they have engineered a new system of glass windows and super-wide doors that maximize the ability to move seamlessly in and out, while conforming to the strictest codes of hurricane-proofing. Among other building projects which feature their unique solutions are the Sydney Opera House, Taipei 101, Guggenheim Museum Bilbao, Norman Foster’s Hearst Tower, and Frank Gehry’s Disney Concert Hall. Permasteelisa Interiors specializes in the design, engineering and production of interior systems. They have worked on a wide variety of projects, from uniquecustom showpieces to comprehensive commercial undertakings. Permasteelisa Interiors is responsible for the design of the custom bathrooms at Faena House in collaboration with Foster+Partners.

The Aerodynamicists

ROWAN WILLIAMS DAVIES AND IRWIN (RWDI) are scientists and engineers who use hydraulic, wind and acoustical laboratory testing to ensure the world’s tallest buildings, largest airports, and longest bridges achieve highest performance levels. At Faena House, RWDI has used their acumen to assure that the building will adequately defend itself against the most challenging conditions of nature and man.

The Craftsmen

THE MOLTENI GROUP was founded by Italian craftsmen in 1934. Molteni has evolved into several divisions, including an international design leader in custom kitchens with Molteni & C and exquisite furniture with Molteni Dada. They have built their reputation on superlative quality, the technical aspects of which are often invisible. Their practice has always involved close collaboration with great architectural minds—Jean Nouvel, Aldo Rossi, Pier Luigi Cerri, and the Scarpas, among others. Molteni & C continues this tradition at Faena House by collaborating with Foster+Partners for the first time in Miami to create custom designed kitchens, offering the exacting standards of quality and craftsmanship in Italy.

The Water Artists

FLUIDITY DESIGN CONSULTANTS are artists whose work is made of water. Rome had Bernini, we have Fluidity. The Los Angeles based design and engineering firm is a distinctive leader in contemporary water design. Fluidity uses the movement and music of water to enhance public and private spaces in the Faena District particularly in the graceful pools integrated with the Faena House lobby and grounds. Fluidity has also brought its elemental harmonies to The Metropolitan Museum of Art, Longwood Gardens and the United Nations Plaza.

Faena Group

THE FAENA GROUP, founded by Alan Faena, is a pioneering business which specializes in the development of new urban environments, experiences and socially responsible projects, anchored by arts and culture that range from residences and hotels to art and cultural spaces. Since 2000, Alan Faena with partner Len Blavatnik, a business leader with global interests in natural resources, media, entertainment, telecommunications and real estate, have transformed an abandoned stretch of property, the docklands of Puerto Madero, into one of the most valuable pieces of real estate in Buenos Aires. It includes the Faena Hotel designed by Philippe Starck; the Faena Arts Center, housed in a turn of the last century mill; and a group of residential projects including the most recent Faena Aleph Residences, Foster+Partners’ first venture in South America. The Faena Group’s success in Argentenia has consolidated the company’s expertise in urban development. In 2014, Miami Beach will see the launch of the Faena District – the first phase of the Faena Group’s global expansion.
